This week’s episode of Legends of Tomorrow, titled Left Behind focuses on Kendra, Ray and Sara being left in 1958 while the rest of the team figure out how to get back. Josh recaps this episode of Legends of Tomorrow and we both provide a review of our thoughts after the jump!

Legends of Tomorrow, Season 1 Episode 9 – Left Behind Recap
Legends of Tomorrow picks up basically right where the last one left off—Inside the Waverider, we see Rip and the team trying to figure out what to do about Chronos, who is assaulting the ship. In the scuffle, the Waverider winds up jumping into the time stream. Eventually Chronos leaves the ship in one of the jump-ships, taking a captive with him—Leonard Snart. In order to escape the time stream (Chronos sabotaged the ship to be stuck there forever), Rip has to reset the ship, which eventually kicks it out into 1960—but we’ll get to that.
Meanwhile outside, Sara, Ray and Kendra wind up left behind. Ray insists that the group stays together, as Eagle Scouts would, but Sara insists that their time with the team has ended and they are stuck in 1958 forever. The three make their way to Hub City, and start a normal life—except for Ray who is working on a time beacon to try to contact the Waverider. When the time beacon doesn’t work Sara gives up hope, telling the other two she needs to make her own life since Ray and Kendra have each other.
Ray and Kendra Settle Down–Briefly
Time moves along to 1960, where Ray is a professor at a college and Kendra is a librarian. The two seem like a happy couple, so much so that we see that Ray has a ring, and looks to be planning to pop the big question soon. However, his plan is interrupted with the team beacon flashing. Ironically Ray had brought it along for the two to destroy together as a celebration of their new life.
But then the Waverider appears, and Ray and Kendra’s life is thrown for a loop again.
Back on the ship, Kendra seems much more excited to be a part of the team again, while Ray is not quite as excited. He would much rather be picked up in 1958, which is apparently an issue with the whole time-space thing. Ray, being a bit of a downer, tells the team he needs to pick up his ATOM suit from the apartment.
Kendra, meanwhile, reveals that she feels like she was forgetting her abilities, including her ability to spread her wings. But the team decides that they should look for Sara, who also might have reverted back to a previous state of mind. The team decides to check out Nanda Parbat as that would be a recognizable place for Sara in 1958-1960. Luckily Rip knows quite a bit about Nanda Parbat and the League of Assassins, and the team heads to find Sara.
Leonard Snart’s Captor
Moving over to Leonard, who is in the hands of Chronos, learns the identity of Chronos—it is Mick/Heat Wave. Leonard tells Mick that he had always planned to come back for Mick, but Mick says he was picked up by the Time Masters and taken to the Vanishing Point, and was trained by them so that he can hunt down Rip and the crew.
Mick apparently is not feeling very forgiving toward Leonard though—telling him that he is going to go back to Central City to kill his sister over and over again. But Mick learns of the team heading to Nanda Parbat and decides to pay them a visit.
Sara Rejoins the League
The team arrives at Nanda Parbat, and learns that Sara has rejoined the league under the name “Ta-er al-Sahfer”, and again is being trained by Ra’s al Ghul. Rip tries to convince Sara to rejoin the team, but she makes a commotion, which calls League guards. Rip then explains that “Time Drift” causes people who have spent too long in a specific time period to forget who they are. This explains why Kendra hasn’t been able to use her abilities.
Rip comes up with an idea that will hopefully save lives—challenging Ra’s al Ghul to a trial by combat. As we have seen in Arrow, each party can choose their champion. Ra’s chooses Sara, and on Rip’s side, Kendra volunteers despite Ray’s protests.
The two then fight, and the fight goes back and forth some, but Sara seems to have the upperhand most of the fight. Finally Kendra is pinned, at Sara’s mercy, but Kendra tries to talk sense into her—saying she is the White Canary. Sara seems to let up.
Chronos/Mick Find the Legends in Nanda Parbat
But Chronos/Mick, who is there for the Legends, then attacks the League. Ra’s sends his men in, but they are not faring well against his superior tech. Rip pleads with Ra’s to let his team go so they can stop Chronos, and Ra’s finally does. We get to see the full team jump into action.
Leonard Confronts Mick
Aboard the jump ship handcuffed, Leonard has to figure out how to get free. He uses his handcuffs to break a few rails, which allows him to get close to his freeze gun. Snart winds up using his gun to freeze one of his hands, so he can slip the handcuffs off of a stump.
Leonard gets to brawl between the Legends and Chronos just as Mick’s helmet is knocked off, revealing Chronos is Mick to the rest of the team. Leonard pleads with the team to not kill Mick.
Time to Get Back to the Waverider
Ra’s realizes that Sara is from the future, so he releases her from the league. Mick is thrown into a cell, but still wants to destroy Rip. Rip decides that they should try to reform Mick, and bring him back into the team, and Sara seems to agree with this idea.
One big convenience factor for the show is that Leonard is able to re-grow his hand thanks to Gideon. Meanwhile, Ray and Kendra make up, with Kendra saying that she still loves Ray, but is glad to be a part of the team.
Rip then reveals his next big secret—he knows that Vandal Savage is in 2147, and that is their next destination. He says he had hoped to avoid going to that time as it could be very dangerous for the team, but it looks like the best chance to stop him.
Josh’s Review and Thoughts: Legends of Tomorrow, Episode 9 – Left Behind
What is great about this episode of Legends of Tomorrow is that I knew Mick was not dead, and I knew he would be coming back to the show in the next couple episodes, but the show did a great job of fooling me—I did not expect Chronos to be Mick. It really used the whole concept of time-travel to fool me.
I was concerned that Mick might get soft with Leonard, and just hope to run back to the “present” in Central City, to go back to their old life. I liked the dark turn he took, and his attempt to take down the Legends was pretty epic, both in the action and how it played out, and the story behind it. I really thought that whole aspect was done really well for this episode.
What I didn’t really care for was all of the “convenient” plot devices that keep coming up for story telling. This element of “Time Drift” is a strange concept for me. What determines how these people revert? Does that mean we will never really see Ray come across himself as a 60 year old man who was left in the past, but is still using the ATOM suit? It seems like a weird concept to come up with a way to explain why Sara went evil again.
I also had a hard time buying the fact that the team could not return to 1958. They easily could have gone back 1 minute after they had left, and they would not have overlapped their own timeline. I assume that is the problem with going back to a timeline where they had already been, but if it is just seconds later, that is still a separate timeline.
I think a more interesting story would be having the team show up in 1960, Sara has gone off the rails, and Ray refuses to go back to the team because of his love for Kendra and his new life, which then forces Rip to go back to 1958 to pick the up the team before any of that ever happens. It would be an interesting dynamic to have Rip and the rest of the team know what troubles these three had before their timeline was recent back to 1958’s timeline.
All in all though, I can’t complain too much. I thought it was done well, and I am certainly curious to see what happens in 2147.
Violet’s Review and Thoughts of Legends of Tomorrow – Left Behind
I wasn’t expecting “Chronos” to end up being Mick. Though I had been of the belief that Snart hadn’t actually killed Mick. However, when they pointed out that Chronos had taken Snart, it suddenly dawned on me that “Chronos” was in fact Mick, and this was confirmed not long after, when he removed his mask. But was Mick actually Chronos all along, or just happens to wear the same suit that Chronos, and others like him (assuming there are others), wear?
This episode was one of those instances where you wonder if this is how things happened all along, or did their traveling back to the past actually change things? I had been of the impression that anything that the Legends do in this show changes things. However, after this episode, I’m confused again. One example is when Ray seemingly influences Mr. Gates to name his son Bill. Another is when Sara asks Ra’s al Ghul to send Nyssa to the coast of Lian Yu in 2008. That means that all of this had to have happened before. That means that by traveling back in time, they haven’t changed things, but made things how they were always supposed to be. Oh, timey-wimey stuff, you make my head hurt!
I feel like some things were a bit too predictable, while other things, it’s like they’re just making this stuff up as they go along, for convenience sake, or plot twists — like making up a reason to strand Kendra, Ray, and Sara there for 2 years, when they really could have easily gone back to an earlier point to get them, and then this whole “time drift” thing on top of that. But I can’t deny that I’m still having fun watching this show. This episode had a fight scene at the end that was quite fun to watch the team in action! And in the next episode, we get to go to the future! Yay! I’m a sucker for futuristic stuff.
